Minnesota Dairy Ingredients Supplier Finds Export Success in Colombia

In July 2023, Dairy Products Inc. (DPI) of Prairie, Minnesota, joined Food Export’s Food Ingredients Buyers Mission at the Institute of Food Technologists’ IFT Show in Chicago, where they connected with a range of international buyers. A meeting with a Colombian buyer proved especially successful, sparking a new business relationship that quickly delivered results. Between July and September 2023, DPI exported more than $284,000 worth of whey protein dairy ingredients to Colombia.

“Participating in Food Export’s Buyers Missions and Trade Missions is essential to our export success,” said Elizabeth Perez, Director of International Sales at DPI. “These events give us the chance to meet buyers we wouldn’t normally have access to and start building valuable relationships. Even a short meeting is enough to open the door to meaningful conversations about how DPI can deliver high-quality solutions. Food Export’s team is always fantastic, and their programs are exceptionally well-designed and well-organized.”

Founded in 1995, Dairy Products Inc. has built a strong reputation for providing premium dairy ingredients, specialty services, and peace-of-mind risk management programs to the global dairy industry. Their product line includes milk fat, milk powders, cheese, whey powder, and specialty dairy ingredients. A longtime Food Export partner, DPI has participated in Buyers Missions, Focused Trade Missions, educational webinars, U.S. Foodlink Featured Products, and Product Showcase events since 1998.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
